Victoria Marathon
It took me almost 2 weeks to write this post...not because I was disappointed but because there was too much good to say!!!!!
We left Calgary on Wednesday morning and drove to Kelowna, BC for our first stop. Kelowna is a happening spot and I hope to visit again during the summer. The BMO Okanagan Marathon was taking place on Sunday so the marathon Vibe was evident in the city when we went out to eat that evening. So awesome!
We visited Penticton on our way back and got to see where Subaru Ironman Canada takes place...this is on my bucket list!!! and the puppy got to do some lake swimming.
Thursday we headed to Vancouver and caught the 2pm ferry to Vancouver Island. Thursday night after settling into the Hotel Grand Pacific in Victoria we headed out to explore the city a bit.
Friday was race expo and Package pick up. it wasn't until 3pm so we explored the beautiful ocean side parks in the morning.
Race shirt and number: :)
The day before the marathon we did the bus tour of the marathon route which was great and I highly recommend this to anyone doing a marathon in a new city. Then it was off to some relaxing at Sea Cider Farm...for some tastings...
The evening before the marathon I did not sleep. All I could think was that I would not finish due to my knee or psoa injury. but, I tried to think positive thoughts and constantly reminded myself that there was no pressure and that I had did everything I could do to prepare for this race.
Part 2......Marathon :)))))))))))))

Garmin 610
Wow....Trent is hoping to pick this up in the states for me this week!!!!
My training for Victoria starts on the 23rd. I am currently keeping my weekly mileage at 35 so I have a nice constant base to start my training. I ordered a custom training program from McMillans Running. Greg McMillan is great and he personalized it according to my work schedule, vacations and some pre-scheduled races during the summer. I will post them weekly when I start.

What a wonderful day! It was beautiful, Sunny blue sky and a welcomed -2.
I got up early and squeezed out my intervals on my treadmill before Hubby woke up. It would have been nice to run.. outside, but I was a bit nervous about not getting the speed in due to ice...and oh ya... I like being injury free :).
I only had 4 mile intervals to do, which I knew would take about 35 minutes, so to keep the cardio at 60 minutes I decided to fatigue the legs before the intervals with 30 minutes of Cathe HiiT DVD. I wanted to see if I could still pull off my interval times with tired legs. Crazy...maybe.., but, I like a little itty bitty challenge every day...nothing to extreme...just something to keep my spunk up!
Wowzers, Cathe's Hiit tape is awesome!!!! and it gave me that challenge I was looking for. My lungs and quads were tired!!!! However, I pushed thru the run and made my goal time. So, I think, without fatiguing my legs before, I can shorten my recovery on my next interval day (better time). I'll chat with my trainer, Iris, tomorrow about this.
I had a relaxing 15 min stretch session and then refueled right away for recovery.
Nutrition:
Smoothie made with Vita mixer:
1 large bunch of Kale de-stemed...about 2 cups
1 lemon
1 banana
1 cup blueberries
1/4 --1/2 cup water/ice
2 Tbsp Hemp seed protein powder
Then it was on to the day! We went for a hour + hike in fish creek and on our way back home we stopped to pick up some extra Christmas lights for the house. When we got back home Trent put up the lights and I finished off the outside wreaths and now we finally have the exterior decorated and I must say it looks great!
After Supper we decorated the Christmas tree and relaxed the rest of the evening. We both have to work tomorrow and the weekend, so the rest of the decorating will happen on our next day off....Tuesday.
Have a great night everyone
